“Because I understand what you are going through, my dear. You are angry with yourself for being weak. You are angry with the men you care the most for, your father, Talreth and Faisal because they all have either hurt or disappointed you. But you don’t have to feel this way anymore.”
“What must I do?” asks Scarlet hanging on her every word.
“Give up. Don’t care. For all your wasted efforts attempting to redeem creatures but fail, wouldn’t it be far more effective with threat or torture or simply kill them if they prove to be challenging. For those that have angered, hurt or disappointed you, don’t get upset–get even. Emotions make you weak but with the proper guidance you can harness them and turn them to your advantage. That is what I can teach you.”
“Dawnsister”, Faisal calls out coughing out blood. One hand on the floor holding him up while the other pressed to the wounded area on his chest, “Don’t listen to her.”
Lilith shakes her head at the fallen warrior stained with his blood. She hands the blade to Scarlet.
“But first you must prove you are worthy of my mentorship. Put him out of his misery.”
“Please…HEAL ME!” He urges as his bloodied hand reaches out to her.
Conflicted, Scarlet glances at the wounded warrior and then gazes at the blood stained blade in her hand.
Lilith sighs in frustration. “Scarlet, It’s really not difficult. He’s not real but only an obstacle preventing you from moving on and discovering your true self. The real Faisal was a whiny, miserable, impulsive, self-absorbed condescending simpleton who only saw you as mere a priestess to burden you with his troubles and expects you to pickup the pieces of his pathetic life. It’s time to move on. Kill him quickly but do not shed a tear.”
“Augghh…” Faisal unable to support himself falls on his side to the ground his arm still reached out to dawnsister.
After a long moment of hesitation, Scarlet draws the blade to his neck.
“Scarlet, please. Don’t… don’t do this. I can fend her off. Heal meee!” He croaks with a tone of desperation in voice. She notes that it’s the first time he’s referred to her as Scarlet.
“KILL HIM!!” shrills the irritated Lilith behind her.
The Dawnsister smiles weakly at Faisal while she gently strokes his hair.
“Do you not see she is saving me. Good bye, my friend”.
In that moment Scarlet slits his throat. She watches as the light fades from his eyes.
A satisfactory smile crosses Lilith face. “Well done, Scarlet. I did not think you were going to come through.”
Scarlet drops the blade and stands up. “Now teach me how to control my emotions.”
“Yes, yes, patience my dear. But first we must seal the deal.”
Lilith wraps her arms around Scarlet and pulls her closer to her. Before Scarlet could object, Lilith presses her lips upon Scarlet. A sudden wave of emotions sweeps over her: euphoria, lust and power.
Scarlet gasps as she awakes from her slumber. She immediately opens her eyes to survey her surroundings. The rest of the party was sound asleep on the stone floor in Whiterose Abby. Even Brother Shin, the designated watchman was slumped in his chair snoring loudly.
How could I ever stay asleep with this rampant snoring?
Scarlet tiptoes her way past the dwarf and pulls out one of the fine expensive bottles of wine the party was able to salvage in this place from the bag of holding. She uncorks the bottle as quietly as she can and drowns her sorrows in hopes to erase the remnants of her dream from her thoughts.
