Scarlet bites her tongue. No longer able to suppress her anxiety, she blurts out, "I have a confession, Deirdre is responsible for the death of the Oracle of Katheer and Brother Morric.
“And I can prove it.”
Faisal eyes widen. He lets out an involuntary gasp of surprise and instinctively places a hand over his chest as if to block an imaginary dagger from puncturing his heart. Once the initial shock subsides, Faisal’s eyes narrow and his brows furrow in disbelief, taking in the Dawnsister’s horrific allegation.
Cautiously, he looks behind him, ensuring no one is eavesdropping at the door and says in a low stern voice, “Dawnsister, these are grave accusations against the Oracle, the Prophet of The Goddess of the Eternal Light of Wisdom and Honesty – holier of the holiest… and a woman I… once loved. Should you not have sound evidence to support your assertions or reasons for your beliefs…”
He clenches his teeth and resumes “It is imperative you tell me now, otherwise I strongly urge you to nevermore speak ill of the Oracle.”
The Dawnsister gulps and takes a step away from the paladin. Never had she seen him exude so much intensity. It is evident he doesn’t take lightly to allegations against the Oracle.
Scarlet begins explaining her story leading up to the communing with the Goddess.
Faisal listens intently at first but as she rambles on and on he tries to stay focus ensuring his eyes perk up every now and then when it begins to droop.
“… after I arrived from Greengold, I communed to the Goddess. Sigmar can attest to this. He was present during the communion.”
Faisal, alarmed by this disclosure, interrupts her story. His voice is softer than before, hesitant and thick. “Dawnsister, I have no need to hear Brother Sigmar give testimony. You have been a mentor, guide and friend for more than three hundred dawnings. As hard as it may be to accept, I do not doubt the truth and sincerity of your words.
“But… Why did you not seek me out immediately after your revelation?”
Scarlet stammers, “wwwe well you were occupied … and …and truth be told I did not know how you would react since you are personally involved with the accused.”
”Also I did not plan on telling you yet until you agitated me and it slipped out.” She thinks to herself.
“Besides” she resumes, “I wanted to present you with solid evidence other than our Goddess words before confronting you. Sigmar is seeing to it that a proper investigation will be conducted.”
The duchess frowns. “Now that I told you, I was very much looking forward to showing you. I even purchased the ingredients in advance for when the time came to show you …and was hoping you have several minutes to spare.”
Faisal responds, “Dawnsister, if you insist then it would be a dishonour to refuse an order. As you proclaim.”
Scarlet unclear how to interpret his reply says with a half smile, “Excellent, allow me time to prepare. Meet me at my chambers at nightfall.”
Faisal nods. They exit the Council Meeting Room going their separate ways.
