Nicky and Max had gone to visit Mikmek to get directions to the temple but I guess it was easier just to bring the little guy along.
We set out with Mikmek and Jhod Kavken trailing along. We went just past where we’d found those tasty moon radishes and quickly found the lost temple. True to Jhod’s vision, there was a large bear guarding the temple. I charged forward casting magic missiles and color spray. Theo and Nicky charged forward as well when the bear started charging me. Max potted it with a few arrows and charged forward as Theo ran back down the stairs towards the healer. As Max and Theo got within flanking positions, I took down the best with a mighty blow from my sword. The bear withered into the form of a man and then a skeleton before turning to dust. The putrid pond turned into clear clean water.
Jhod said he would remain at the temple to restore it to its former order. He said we can return there anytime we like for healing. It ends up that we were back the next day after our encounter with a Shambling Mound luckily those things are slow. I had filled it with magic missiles as I retreated but it eventually gave up the chase and hid in the forest. Unfortunately a few of my companions were injured. It was on our return to the temple that we met Scarlet, Jhod’s apprentice who he claimed was annoying him with her chatter. She is a very impressive half-elf blessed of body, mind and spirit.
The next day we headed back (with Scarlet) towards where we had encountered the Shambling Mound but instead encounter the layer of a giant boar. It rushed out and gored Nicky. The rest of us rushed forward to the rescue and I took it down with another mighty blow.
We kept heading south east to return Mikmek to his home and we stumbled in a briar of fangberry bushes. Glyn will be happy if he even remembers that we were running low on ale. He had stayed behind to help finish the ale while we went about procuring the berries I suppose. Mage Hand is a wonderful spell, we discovered, as we used it to pick the fangberries to avoid the poisonous spiders hiding amongst the berries.
We kept heading south east and saw the Stag Lord’s fortress from a distance. Instead we turned north east forded the river and brought Mikmek back home. On the way to back to Oleg’s we found a lightning struck tree which contained a water damaged spellbook, a wand and a few other items. The day before reaching Oleg’s I was attached by a spider who poisoned me then ran back down into its hole. It was a tough poison and I am still weak from its effects.
We now stand a few hundred yards from Oleg’s as we see 4 ogres attacking the trading post. Time to come up with a plan…
