“I was hoping you could talk to him, Ildrim. I have tried convincing him but I don’t think it helped. Maybe your logical approach would work.”
“I still beg of you to reconsider but I will try my hardest Duchess”, Ildrim bows.
Ildrim quickly uses a feather token to send a message to Valainistima.
Scarlet is abdicating. Asked me to convince Nicholas to become Duke. Seeking him now.
“Ah Nicholas, glad I found you. It is lovely outdoors like this, especially at this time of the year in Tuskany. The leaves are just beautiful. Scarlet asked me to talk with you.”
“Yes, I’m thinking about it already. No, I haven’t made up my mind. Was there anything else?”
“Well I was hoping to convince you. Being Duke or Duchess is a great responsibility, a responsibility I think that you could bear well. But nonetheless it takes its toll. Both Talreth and Scarlet started drinking rather heavily after enduring that responsibility. Even dependable Faisal in the short time he was duke regent, you could see the strain. Before his timely demise, he was acting most peculiar and uncharacteristically vengeful. I think that was evidence of the strain he was under. Maybe you would hold up better than your compatriots but is it a wise time now that your wife is about to give birth to put the both of you under this strain?”
“Ummm, I thought Scarlet had asked you to try to convince me to take the position?”
“Well, she did but I honestly don’t think you can do it. You have many fine qualities but leadership is just not one of them. While you are smarter than Faisal you are just not a smart man, your decision making is suspect and I rather think if you were to take office, we’d be overrun with Breweries and Taverns. The only reason you are being suggested by Scarlet is that you were one of the original group which was given the charter of exploration. Well that and you are one of Talreth’s descendents. Although really at this point, his blood has been thinned to the point of irrelevance. I mean you are a mere human not even half-elven.”
Nicholas face has been steadily becoming red and out flies a thorn from his armor which bounces off an invisible wall that seems to be separating him from Ildrim.
“Glad we had this chat”, Ildrim says as he disappears.
Nicholas walks back to the castle seeking Tamara where she had been chatting with Lucinda. He sees Tamara, sitting at a table chatting with someone.
“Its good to see you dear, you won’t believe what Ildrim dared say to me outside”, Nicholas enters the room fully and see Tamara has been chatting with Ildrim, “You, what are you doing here!”
